Update on Tommy: He is home!

Here is the update for everyone, since I don't think a lot of information has been getting out. We have been pretty busy the last few days.

Everyone has been sick for the last 1-2 weeks. I had a cold, and then Gabe got it, and then Heidi got it, and then Tari and Thomas got it. Everyone seemed to be doing kind of miserable, but okay. Then on Tuesday Tommy turned blue and got all limp, so we rushed him to the ER. He was diagnosed with RSV (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Respiratory_syncytial_virus) and admitted to the hospital. Because RSV is a virus, they can't cure it, they can only treat the symptoms. He was on oxygen, and antibiotics for a bacterial infection in his eyes, and then they also suctioned out his air passages every few hours. He responded very well, and is back to the pink little boy we love.

He is doing very well this morning. Yesterday they took him off of oxygen, and once he was able to go a whole day keeping his oxygen up on his own, and not needing the deep suctioning, they discharged. He still has the virus but he is doing much better. Now we just have to keep an eye on him, make sure he gets suctioned out, and we will probably take him into the outpatient clinic if his breathing gets really labored.

This whole experience has made me very grateful for the technology we have and the wonderful people in the medical profession. Also for health insurance. I know that Heavenly Father was watching out for us, and is blessing him to heal quickly. I am so happy to have my whole family back together again safe and well. Well, part of us are well, and the rest of them are working on getting that way!

Now I just have to start taking care of everything that has been ignored for the last month and a half while I have been recovering from baby and dealing with sickness. Hurray for flylady. She will save my sanity today, I just know it! :)

Wow, between the febrile seizure and the RSV you have had some scary times lately! Thatcher had RSV when he was about 6 months old. I am so glad your sweet little boy is home and doing better. We'll keep your continued recovery in our prayers. :)

I am so sorry that you have been dealing with all of this sickness, you are a strong mother. I would be going crazy and not know how to react. Thank goodness everyone is feeling better, and way to use flylady, I need to do better on that!

Hello Brittons,
How are you guys? I'm sorry to hear that Tommy got sick with RSV. When I did my Nursing Clinicials I was up on the floor with the children who had RSV. We would dress up in all this protective gear just to go into the room. It was so sad to see these little kids fighting RSV. I'm glad Tommy is doing much better. This is the time of year that sickness is at it's worst November through April.
I'm glad I found you guys! Gavin is doing so well. He is talking so well that you wouldnt even know he is deaf. Thanks to the Implant! I'm going to add you guys to my blog list of friends and family.
Have a Great Day! I'll stop by often to see how the Provo Brittons are doing!

I witnessed the aforementioned sickness and even participated. I am going to have to make a statement:

Meggan really is one of the most amazingly patient (cannot really emphasize patient enough), wonderfully kind, and sterling at mothering through difficulties kind of person there is! It really was tough and she really was impressive. Tari is great with sick babies and he was sick too!

By the way: nod to the pot o' gold and it's contents.

Oh, no fun. Glad you are all on the mend! We need to make a trip to Utah some time, and when we do, we will have to see you and your newest little guy.
